Yankee connections: On this date, September 12, 1960 exactly 66 years ago, my mother and her 3 sons landed at Idlewild (JFK) airport for a overdue reunion with our father, I was 12. On October 13, my father's birthday, Bill Mazeroski hit a walkoff homerun to beat the Yankees in game 7. Since our Superstar ball player Roberto Clemente was from Carolina, PR the town we had just left, we were Pirate fans then. In 1961, M&M boys lit up the sport pages nationwide and I started High School less than half a mile from Yankee Stadium, the year I and one of my brothers became Yankee fans. Next, for his 10th birthday, I took my son to his first game in 1983 and he is a devoted fan still as are his 2 sons, all appear in the photo. Imagine a Yankee fan attending Optometry School in Boston? Yikes! Next, 1998, still in Boston, my son tearfully calls after game 7 from a pay phone at a local bar. The curse of the Babe was still intact, so the hostile patrons had choice words for me. They would later use them to rename Buckey "F" Dent and Aaron Boone! Next, The best for last on September 4, 1999, the MC at my son's wedding introduced the ushers and bridesmaids at the venue. Suddenly, the voices of Michael Kay and John Sterling came on introducing the couple as husband and wife for the first time. It ended with John Sterlings famous, "Adam wins, Adam winsssss." Everyone is still searching for them? I've taken a roundabout way to thank Joe Pasternack and his family for how incredibly grateful I am that I can leave this memory to my son and 2 of my 4 grandsons. I could never have afforded this on my own, it is "Priceless." In March of 2021, i was diagnosed with a terminal disease called IBM, a twin brother to ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease, possibly Agent Orange related, and and my time is indeed limited. I can only promise you that I will find little ways to pay it forward. "A Hero's Wish" on Vettix would be perfect. I served in Vietnam in 68-69. God Bless You
