Dear CBJ, My daughter and I love playing and watching hockey. It's our thing. I grew up in Cleveland. I joined the military out of high school and got stationed in NC, therefore, my daughter's born and raised NC and we're big Hurricanes fans. Despite living in Raleigh, we couldn't afford to go to more than 1 game a year, but we followed it and watched all the televised games we could. Two years ago I found the opportunity to move back home to CLE and I did it! We now have 1/2 season tickets to the Monsters and we're excited about the playoffs!! Unfortunately, after 8 1/2 years with a great company, I was just laid off. We have some savings, but I have no business buying playoff tickets right now. I'm heart broken that I have to deny my daughter this experience, but she took it very well. She didn't complain. She understands. She wishes she could help. She's a great person. When I saw the email telling me about this game, I didn't even think about it. I just clicked it. I told her we're going to a Jacket's game and she immediately started listing all the missing Monsters she might get to see: Jet Del Bel Malatesta Blankenburg Meyer Pyyhtia Then I told her they're playing CAR and we shared a tear moment. I'm still in shock about the layoff, none of us are in the brightest of spirits. We could all use some good news. * Great weather day of the event * Enjoyed the scenery while driving down * Walked around downtown for a little while before the game. The water/walkways are gorgeous. Once in the arena, we got a free CBJ poster!! She pointed out all the Canes jerseys. We met a lady with an autographed Hines Ward jersey. We walked a lap and found our seats. The highlight of the game was certainly Luca. She was watching him, tapping my leg when he got the puck. Seriously??? He scored his first goal on his first shot in his first game??? She exploded. I laughed the whole time watching her inner conflict. Teuvo Teravainen scored and she didn't know what to do because she loves him, but also loves Greaves :) I love Johnny Gaudreau, so I urged her to watch him skate for a while. Not long after, he scored. Please take good care of him! Columbus has a beautiful downtown that we felt very safe in. Traffic patterns were superior to most places I've been and there was ample parking. All experiences with the facility, it's condition, and it's staff were positive. You clearly take pride in what you're doing and you should because you're doing an excellent job. Thank you for your patriotism. Thank you for taking the time to coordinate with VetTix and list these opportunities. It's allowed us this chance to take a break from life and enjoy some hockey. We needed it, and we'll never forget it. Thank you to our military. These men and women work hard and make significant sacrifices to keep us, and our country safe. I've seen it first hand. I take pride in this country, the fact that these people exist, and that they volunteer for such roles. I'm sure I'll find a job soon that's even better than my last one, but this transition and 'not knowing' is very tough for me. Thanks to this break, spent bonding with my daughter and feeling like a good provider, I have a second wind. Go Jackets!! Ken and Zoey
