When I was a grad student at Vanderbilt in the early 1970s, my wife and I attended Commodore games. When, after seminary in the early 1980s, I was a new pastor in Missouri, we attended Missouri games in Columbia. On October 15, 1983, the University of Nebraska came to Mizzou to play the Tigers. I got to see Heisman Trophy winner Mike Rozier play that day in the Cornhuskers win. Sharon couldn't be with me that day since she'd given birth to our daughter on October 12, in Boone Country Hospital, at the edge of the MU campus. But this time around, she was with me to see Missouri . . . and Vanderbilt. We're very thankful to Vandy for giving us the chance to see both the Commodores and Tigers on the same field.
