I always wondered, as well as some of the critics, how could an 1800's novel from a particularly depressing period of french history turn into a musical. And to top that, most of the principal characters, including young children, are killed. But they pulled it off. Thank you to the Nederlander group to give us the opportunity to experience it all. Everything was first rate; spectacular set designs, music from the orchestra and actors outstanding. In fact, I have never heard so many actors with such fine singing voices. It really was a memorable night. I feel guilty being able to enjoy it as there was a fire at the Pantages after our performance cancelling many of the subsequent perfomances. I'm sorry those people also didn't have a chance to see it.
