Dear Veteran Tickets Foundation Purchases, As a disabled veteran, it is with overwhelming gratitude that I write this note to thank you for the tickets to today's Memorial Day game. I can't begin to express how much this gesture meant to me. I was thrilled to witness the Athletics beat the Atlanta Braves 7-2, snapping an 11-game losing streak. It was a joy to see our very own Ryan Noda deliver that three-run homer, spoiling Michael Soroka's return to the majors. It was a true testimony to the fighting spirit that defines our team and our city. I was also moved by the comeback story of A’s right-hander Paul Blackburn, who came off the injured list to make his season debut, striking out six with a pair of walks over four innings. It's an inspiring tale that hits close to home, reminding me of the importance of never giving up, even when facing adversities. I also want to commend Lucas Erceg for his outstanding hitless relief, earning him his first major league win. And let's not forget the impressive runs from Ramón Laureano, Shea Langeliers, and Jace Peterson in the eighth inning, sealing our victory. While I enjoyed the brilliant plays and the win, I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the commendable effort of Braves' Michael Soroka, returning to the pitch after 1,030 days and two separate Achilles tendon tears. As someone who knows firsthand the trials of overcoming physical challenges, I salute his resilience. To see such a display of sportsmanship and fortitude at the ballpark was a special Memorial Day treat. Baseball, for me, is more than just a game. It's a symbol of camaraderie, endurance, and shared passion. On this day, as we remember our fallen comrades, being able to watch this beautiful sport amidst a supportive community made the commemoration all the more meaningful. The atmosphere at the stadium, the unity of the fans, and the dedication of the players reminded me of the essence of our great nation, and the camaraderie we share as Americans. Thank you, Veteran Tickets Foundation Purchases, for your generous gift. The game was more than a source of entertainment; it was a beacon of hope and a reminder of the strength in our collective spirit. Warmest Regards, Maury “Mack” McFadden LCDR, USCG (Ret.)
