Thanks to the generosity of Nederlander National, I was able to take my son to see the musical, Hamilton. Samuel, my son has been listening to the songs from the musical for years. The soundtrack is something that gets played in the car both during road trips and for trips to the grocery store. The playwright, Lin Manuel Miranda, gave my son someone to relate to. A talented guy from the neighborhood that takes his shot and makes it big, is a story that is familiar in sports and music, but rarely in theater and while singing about relevant history with a cast of largely minority players, it was a welcome sight! Watching Hamilton from such great seats was a moment he enjoyed both for the cultural context and because it was the first big stage production he has ever seen. I am grateful for the opportunity to take him to this event and thank the donors for affording hard working veterans opportunities that many of us would not have if it were not for their generosity.
