Overall, we enjoyed a soothing & exquisite production esp with both violinist Ms S Porter as our new AIR/Artist in Residence, to 2028,,& Mr vibrant Danzmayr in charge! Kudos extended for Simone's concertos & her 'Sunrise solo',,most of all for composer Philip Glass' energized 1st half. Here's some history,,Mr Glass was born in Baltimore, MD on Jan 31, 1937 now 88yo,,as the son of Ida (née Gouline) & Benjamin Glass. His family were Latvian-Jewish & Russian-Jewish emigrants. His father owned a record store & his mother was a librarian, & in his memoir, Glass recalls that at the end of WWII his mother aided Jewish Holocaust survivors, inviting arrivals to America to stay at their home until they could find a job & a place to live. She developed a plan to help them learn English & develop skills so they could find work. Thank you Oregon Symphony for our 'wonderfully vibrant violin afternoon' at the Schnitz.
