Concert Review: Grupo Marca Registrada at Pacific Amphitheatre, OC Fair, August 17, 2025 On the final night of the 2025 Orange County Fair, Grupo Marca Registrada brought their signature corridos tumbados and regional Mexican flair to the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, California, delivering a high-energy performance that had the crowd on its feet from start to finish. With support acts Los Primos de la Baja and DJ Trice warming up the stage, the sold-out show of over 8,000 fans was a vibrant celebration of Mexican music and culture, perfectly capping the fair’s “Find Your Happy” theme. The concert kicked off at 7:30 PM, with doors opening an hour earlier to a buzzing crowd eager to soak in the fair’s final day. DJ Trice set the mood with a pulsating mix of Latin beats, seamlessly transitioning to Los Primos de la Baja, whose lively set of regional hits primed the audience. By the time Grupo Marca Registrada—fronted by Fidel Oswaldo Castro on vocals and accordion, with Luis Merla on drums, Choco Montemayor on bass, and Toto Hernández on backing vocals and bass guitar—took the stage, the energy was electric. Opening with their chart-topping 2023 hit “Di Que Sí,” the band immediately had the crowd singing along, phone lights waving like a sea of stars. Castro’s commanding presence and accordion riffs drove the song’s infectious melody, while the band’s tight instrumentation showcased their decade-plus experience. The Pacific Amphitheatre’s crisp sound system amplified every note, from Montemayor’s thumping basslines to Merla’s precise rhythms, ensuring the music reached every corner of the venue. The setlist was a masterful blend of their romantic and hard-hitting corridos, reflecting their versatility. Tracks like “El Rescate” (a Billboard Global 200 hit) and “LOVRGA” brought out the crowd’s rowdier side, with fans in the front rows dancing and chanting along to the gritty, belicones-style lyrics. Meanwhile, slower numbers like “Si Fuera Fácil” and “Solo Me Dejaste” tugged at heartstrings, with Castro’s emotive delivery resonating deeply, especially among couples swaying in the terrace seats. Their 2024 collaboration with Julieta Venegas, a regional Mexican take on “Andar Conmigo,” was a surprise highlight, blending nostalgia with their modern edge. Visually, the stage was understated but effective, with warm lighting and subtle LED accents that kept the focus on the music. The band’s charisma carried the show—Hernández and Castro bantered playfully with the audience in Spanish, dedicating “El Destino Nos Separa” to “los enamorados” (the lovers) in the crowd, earning cheers. The amphitheater’s open-air setup, paired with the cool August evening, added to the festive vibe, with fairgoers spilling in with cotton candy and glow sticks from the nearby carnival. The crowd was a diverse mix of families, young fans, and longtime followers of regional Mexican music, all united by the band’s infectious energy. A standout moment came during the encore when Marca Registrada performed “El Mayor de Los Ranas,” prompting a massive singalong that felt like a communal celebration of Culiacán pride. The inclusion of free same-day OC Fair admission with concert tickets added to the night’s appeal, with many fans enjoying fair rides and food before the show. If there was a minor hiccup, it was a brief sound imbalance during “Puro Campeón,” where the accordion slightly overpowered the vocals. The issue was quickly corrected, and the band’s professionalism kept the momentum intact. Some fans on X noted post-show that the band didn’t stay for photos, a small letdown for a few, but the performance itself left little room for complaints. Grupo Marca Registrada proved why they’re a leading force in the corridos tumbados movement, balancing raw energy with emotional depth. The concert ended at 9:45 PM with a roaring ovation, and as fans poured out into the fairgrounds, the buzz was undeniable. For those who caught this show, it was a night of pure felicidad—a fitting finale to the 2025 OC Fair.
