My name is Maury M. McFadden, and as a disabled veteran, I had the extraordinary privilege of being part of the audience at the Davies Symphony Hall on May 25, 2023. I am writing to extend my profound thanks to you and to the generous patrons who made this evening possible. It is through the compassionate efforts of individuals like Barbro and Bernard Osher, sponsors of the Masterworks series, that veterans like myself can experience the transformative power of music. The evening's performance, featuring the West Coast premiere of Julia Wolfe's "Her Story," and Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s "Scheherazade," was more than a musical treat—it was a deeply emotional and inspirational journey. My heartfelt thanks to Solomon B. Cera and Toby Fischer Cera, whose sponsorship helped bring the poignancy and power of "Her Story" to life, and to the National Endowment for the Arts, for their part in supporting such significant works. The performance was a testament to the enduring struggle for equality and the voice of resilience in the face of adversity. Furthermore, I'd like to extend my gratitude to the Ralph I. Dorfman Commissioning Fund for their vital support in commissioning this groundbreaking work, a significant contribution to the cultural landscape. Your combined efforts have resulted in a production that resonates deeply with those of us who have faced our share of battles. Finally, I would like to acknowledge the Louise M. Davies Guest Conductor Fund for making Maestro Giancarlo Guerrero's awe-inspiring leadership possible. His masterful interpretation of the scores allowed the pieces to truly speak to the audience. So, thank you all. Thank you for the tickets, the sublime performance, the socially important messages, and for the generosity that allowed me to be a part of it all. Great to be able to attend a performance at the San Francisco Symphony. From the venue to the performances of the musicians and singers it was a great evening. Thanks to the San Francisco Symphony for sharing by donating tickets. My daughter and I were very happy to spend our Thursday evening enjoying the magic of Davies Symphony Hall.
