Past Hero's Wishes
Oct 13th 2013 Hello, My name is Howard Bell. I am a Lieutenant Commander and have been in the US Navy for 25+ years. I am currently serving a one year tour in Bahrain in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. My wish is to attend a Baltimore Ravens Football game with my wife and two sons. We are huge Ravens fans, while deployed I was able to watch the Superbowl and with the time difference of +8 hours the game came on at 2am, but watching my team win the Superbowl was well worth losing a little sleep. I will be back in the States after October 9th. I appreciate all who support our military. Thank you for your consideration. |

Jun 1st 2013 My name is Sgt. Jorge Segura. My wish is to take my wife, caregiver, to see George strait on June 1, 2013. I would need 2 tickets for the concert. My injuries consist of multiple traumatic brain injuries, right forearm blown off, reconstruction of right forearm. Limb salvage, multiple shrapnel wounds to upper left chest, and lower back. Removed part of my right thigh to save my forearm. My family is my greatest support I could ever have. My Wife, Stefani, my daughters, Samantha(5)and Olivia(2). My oldest daughter suffers from PTSD as do I from being and seeing such traumatic events. I left when she was three, and my wife was pregnant with my youngest child. May 28th 2013 My name is Ryan Timms. My wish is to take my wife, and if possible,my son and my sister to see Taylor Swift Live, with seats as close as possible. I have served in the Army for 4 years. I was recently deployed to Afghanistan for 12 months with the 11th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade (Fort Huachuca, AZ), while my wife, Holly, stayed home alone to work and care for our pets. We both are big music fans, she being a huge country fan, especially Taylor Swift. It would be amazing to take her to this concert since this summer we will relocate so I can attend the Defense Language Institute and don't foresee much opportunity to do extra fun things while in school the next 2 years. It would be a really fun and exciting time for both of us, and our family, if were able to go. We are hoping to get tickets to Taylor Swift's RED Tour in Glendale, AZ (May 28 or May 29), and seats as close as possible would be really cool too. |

Apr 20th 2013 Bill is currently deployed to Afghanistan, returning soon. Unfortunately, he has only been home for 2 of our daughter Sage's 12 birthdays. He wanted to do something special for her 13th birthday, which is April 20 - the same day the Harlem Globetrotters play locally. Sage REALLY loves basketball, so this is perfect. |

Jan 23rd 2013 I am SSG Mayes, Wyatt A. On June 24 2012 I was injured while in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. I was on patrol my vehicle was struck by a 200 pound command detonated IED, As a result of the IED strike I sustained a broken right Calcaneus (heal) and I burst fractured or shattered my L-3 Vertebra. I was Medevac’d out of country and underwent surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center to have my L-1 through my L-5 vertebra fused together. Due to the nature in which my Vertebra shattered I sustained major nerve damage causing intense pain and numbness that radiates through my back and left leg, I still do not have full use of my left leg. After my spinal fusion there were still a lot of pieces of my shattered vertebra in my back, one large piece was stabbing into my spinal column causing me a lot of pain so on November 13 2012 I underwent another surgery to remove pieces of my shattered vertebra and relieve the pressure on my spinal column. The surgery helped a lot but I still have Pain every day and still do not have a lot of feeling in my left leg. I am lucky to be alive after the accident I was in and I do not want people to feel sorry for me and I am not looking for handouts, this site is a great resource and I am trying to take advantage of the benefits. I am stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii while I am recovering and my wish is to attend the Pro Bowl this year. I am requesting 4 tickets so my family can attend the game with me but I will take whatever someone is willing to give Thanks for reading my story, if you do not donate for my cause please help out one of my wounded brothers or sisters in arms. |

Dec 23rd 2012 My name is WO1 Brian Alterowitz. I am currently deployed to Afghanistan, and won't be home until mid-February. My family: Kristina, Brianna (8), Maggie (7) and Michael (22 months), are diehard Seattle Seahawks fans. So much so that Maggie has her room decorated with Seahawks jerseys and one of Michael's first words was "Touchdown!" Kristina and the kids want very badly to go to a home game in Seattle, but we simply can't afford it. Because of this, the family has never been able to attend a game together. On December 23rd, The Seahawks play our conference rival, the San Francisco 49ers, at CenturyLink Stadium in Seattle. Please help me get them to that game! I cannot be there, because I will still be deployed, but it would make me happy knowing that, with your help, I was able to make their Christmas wishes come true. Specifically I am asking for four (4) tickets to the Seahawks / 49ers game on 23 December 2012. That would be one for Kristina, Maggie and Brianna, and one for Kristina's father, Dan, who will help her wrangle the kids. I don't think Michael needs a ticket because he won't be two years old by the time the game is played. I know I am asking a lot, but it would mean the world to me knowing that, despite the fact I can't be home for the holidays, Kristina and the kids know that there are people who support what I do, and that I am thinking about them. |

Dec 23rd 2012 Corporal Hardy Mills was born in Azle and raised in Millsap TX. In December of 2002, he joined the U.S. Marines, and deployed to Iraq with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force as an Artillery Forward Observer in January of 2004. On June 29th of that year, in the city of Fallujah during Operation Phantom Fury, one of the bloodiest engagements of the war, he was on top of a guntruck when he and a fellow Marine were struck by a mortar. He was knocked unconscious and woke up with a hole in his back, and covered with blood. For several days after the attack, he was unable to hear due to the explosion. His injuries included a lacerated spleen, broken scapula, severed leg artery, both lungs collapsed, infections, and severe burns among others. The doctors said that he would probably not live through the night due to a tremendous loss of blood. After being evacuated to Germany he went through three surgeries and then to Bethesda, Maryland where he went through more surgeries, including multiple skin grafts. It was there that he was told that he would never walk again, but he proved them wrong. Corporal Mills has been medically retired from the Marine Corps and now lives with his wife Danielle and children Shane and Madelyn in FT Worth TX where he is working on a Masters Degree in Business Administration His wish is to attend a Dallas Cowboy v. Washington Redskins game with my family maybe a suite and meet some cowboys. |

Dec 2nd 2012 My husband, Medically Retired SSGT Randall Martel, and I are requesting any help that you can provide. Our wish is to take our family to Disney World. We would need (6) 4-8 day park hopper passes to Disney World for our family. (from 12/2/12-12/8/12) using a Disney vacation club belonging to the head of the family. Prior to my husband’s 18 month deployment, he was a police officer which was his dream job. We are both foster parents, taking in troubled teens, and I was a fulltime student working on my bachelors’ degree with hopes of going to law school to become a lawyer. Things did not go as planned and in every tragedy there are miracles peeking around corners setting you on the path to lessons learned. At the end of my husband’s 18 month deployment he was shipped to Fort Campbell Kentucky for three months of treatment then to Fort Dix New Jersey for another three months of treatment. My daughters Chelsea, Kira, Shelbie and myself followed spending our life savings to be near him while he was getting treatment for PTSD and a Traumatic Brain Injury. After more than 24 months the military finally put him on MRPII Orders, which made allowed him to receive treatment closer to home at Hanscomb Air Force base around 5 hours away. My dream of going to law school however was just not possible. My job became driving my husband around to his doctor’s appointments which made it impossible to find a job or professor that would allow me to take time off. During the switch between the military MRPII orders and the VA compensation, we almost lost our home, this was very stressful on the whole family. We've been learning to live with PTSD and a brain injury but it has been a struggle from day one. We have endured many hours of our own therapy with counselors to learn how to deal with everything. One of the suggestions my counselor had for me was to get out of the house and volunteer my time somewhere. This allowed me to have "me" time and do something that I love. I searched around and found that I could volunteer my time with the local Public Defenders Office. Ironically, this has since turned into a clerkship under the Vermont Law Reading Program which (while I haven’t gotten paid for the last 4 and a half years) allows me to sit for the bar exam after four years instead of going to law school. I will be sitting for the exam in February. The state of Vermont has recently asked us to adopt a teenage girl in need of a home, which we did. We now have four girls who have endured through all the craziness of life with a parent with a brain injury. Obviously, Disney World tickets for all six of us would be a lot to ask, so we would appreciate any help at all. Randall and Jessica Martel |

Nov 18th 2012 My name is LCDR John Ruane, USN. My family and I would love to see a Washington Redskins game in person. My wish is to take my family to a Washington Redskins football game. I would need 5 tickets for me, my wife and my 3 children. I have never had the opportunity to take my family to a Redskins game. We would be thrilled to attend a Home Game in 2012-2013! My deployment to Southcom consisted of anti-drug operations, as well as humanitarian aid (see attached photo of house we built in 4 days in a 3rd world country). The Lord gives back to those who give. Many blessings, John and family! |
