I wish to convey my gratitude to the Boston Philharmonic for graciously donating tickets to yesterdays symphony performance. The music and musicians were amazing. Thank you for your generosity.

I've been to many symphonic concerts in my lifetime, this was different; this was a special life experience I will never forget. The program began with Maestro Zander reading a very touching letter from a student about the situation in Ukraine and the power of music to teach and lead. The orchestra then deviated from the program and played the Ukrainian National Anthem. Everyone in Symphony Hall rose and stood at attention, a powerful, symbolic statement of unity with the Ukrainian people. The program itself consisted of works by Ravel and Elgar, composers whose music was affected by their experiences in WWI, and Shostakovich's Symphony #5, written in protest against Stalin's brutal regime. Maestro Zander delivered an inspirational performance that I shall never forget. Thank you so much.

The music selection by Benjamin Zander has never disappointed, and this was no different. Sunday's performance was prefaced by a heartfelt rendition of Ukrane's national anthem. Benjamin's description of each piece of music before it is played helped me to know what to listen for, and what it meant, particularly the climatic ending of Shostakovich's 5th, with a single defiant note being played 252 times (I saw one of the musicians nodding when he noted that number). Thank you Vettix, Boston Philharmonic, and Benjamin, for allowing my wife and I to experience this live performance.
