Thanks so much to the American Museum of Natural History for tickets to see Sebastian Junger's latest offering "The Last Patrol". Since watching "Restrepo", I have been a huge admirer of Junger's work. Actually getting the opportunity to meet him and Brendan O'Byrne (combat vet from Restrepo and partner in his journey for "The Last Patrol") was truly a gift. They actually took the time to have a real conversation with me about their take on readjustment and the struggles vets face reintegrating into society. This movie was the best kind of sequel. It was a snapshot in time of 4 people who have experienced war in different ways and who are trying to find their place in a world away from war. There were no tidy solutions that could be wrapped up in a neat bow and presented to the watcher. If anything, I left the theater thinking that the trip wasn't about finding answers as much as it was about people with a sameness of experience who needed to regularly find brotherhood with each other...a kind of battery recharge in a world where they don't quite relate to everyone around them who can't understand where they have been and what they have been through.
